My family came in for the Thanksgiving Day weekend and I was lamenting with my brother-in-law, a fellow geek, about how I ran into a bunch of problems accessing email from work. I use a hosted exchange account that lets me access my email via a web-based "Outlook Web Access." Unfortunately, though, this only works in Internet Explorer and you need to have ActiveX enabled and be able to install new ActiveX components. It just so happens that on the system I'm working on I can't do this. This leaves me with a couple more options. One is to access email via a very dumbed down text-based interface. As it happened, this interface was not working on Tuesday. Normally, what I end up doing is just using my phone to send and receive email. This works ok, but I really can't type long messages in it as it takes forever typing on the little keyboard. Also as it happens, I occasionally leave my phone at home, or it runs out of juice at some point, becoming unusable.
ok geniuses why not invent a way to get rid of the @ (at)symbol in
emails. It requires finger movement and sometimes even must be from the
Capitals. why not justa lower case symbol?
I have a friend who uses 'Log Me In' all the time from where she works to
her home computer and it is fantastic. Unfortunately when I tried it, the
corporation I work for blocks this site completely from my work computer.
Our firewall and blocking filters are unbelievable, you can't break through
anything. We no longer have streaming media etc, which means you can't
listen to music or even see video news clips on news sites. I think this is
where large corporations are headed, they're very protective of their
bandwidth and their property. They want to track all your movements. All of
you who have access to 'Log Me In' now, may not tomorrow.
My company ended up blocking it as a "security threat." I think you're
right, though, that companies are cracking down on things that could be a
security concern, too entertaining for their employees, or using too much
bandwidth. Right now I'm able to get by because I have a Treo 700P, which
has 300-400K data speeds and I use a program that functions similarly to
Log Me In with it. The only problem is the small screen, so you have to do
a lot of scrolling...
Is there any way of getting rid of the pop up that appears when you access
remote control? As i want to watch a pc silently. Thanks
