Learning The Ropes

posted Wednesday, 28 May 2003
Ok, so I got this book on blogging. I know, I know, it sounds cheesey. But sometimes all the info out there on the web is overwhelming in its magnitude and I felt I needed something organized and somewhat complete which would explain all of this to a novice blogger but not necessarily a novice when it comes to technical stuff. I ended up with We Blog mainly because it was the better of two books that I found at Borders the other night. Have been reading it for several days now at my fairly slow pace and I think I am starting to understand things a bit better.

Mainly I will try not to have the huge essays like below, or at least not very often. I'm thinking of using this as a way to link articles or sites, and give opinions on various topics that I have interest/expertise in. So that's probably going to be stuff like:

  • Photography
  • Gadgetry in general, but more specifically cell phones, digital cameras, PDA's, MP3 players, and such
  • Diet and Nutrition
  • Web Development
  • Jeez, I thought there was more, but I'm drawing a blank

I think this may work and I will try to start adding stuff more often as I understand things better and feel more comfortable. It's nothing really to do with the technical aspects of it, of course. I know there's a lot of advanced stuff my blog doesn't have right now. Some of that's due to not having the tools to create them easily - I have the free version of Blogger and have not yet decided whether I will be staying with them or going somewhere else, or even setting some software up on my regular home page.

I guess that's it for now. Perhaps I'll check back in later today or tomorrow and post some more real content that doesn't have to do with my writing this blog. I did love Adaptation, but this is getting ridiculous!
